Can Intermittent Fasting Provide Similar Weight Loss Effects As Intense Exercise?

Intermittent Fasting

What if there was a way to lose weight without having to kill yourself in a gym exercising everyday? Well, there is. Intermittent Fasting.

What Is Intermittent Fasting?

Intermittent fasting is a method of weight loss where you do not eat anything for short periods of time, usually no longer than 24 hours at a time. You also would not have to fast more than once or twice per week to achieve these type of results.

How Does Intermittent Fasting Compare To Intense Exercise?

When humans exercise or exert intense effort, they burn calories. More importantly, we burn fat. This is at the core of why we even bother to exercise in the first place.

In a similar fashion, when we practice intermittent fasting, we burn calories and fat calories.

Exercising intensely causes our blood insulin levels to drop. When talking about weight loss, insulin is an extremely important body hormone. It is one of the main gate keepers deciding whether or not you will lose any weight or not. So when insulin levels in our blood drop, it signals to our body that fat burning can occur.

When insulin blood levels are high, it signals to our body that we need to store calories as fat for another time. This is why all the popular diets today just don’t work. You end up gaining even more weight. If you are eating 5 or 6 times a day, then you have high insulin levels because every time you eat your body releases insulin.

However, when you do an intermittent fast, you have not eaten for a period of time and your insulin levels are very low allowing for increased free fatty acids to be released in your blood. This means that fat loss can occur easily.

You also see that intense exercise has the effect of raising blood levels of human growth hormone. This hormone has been linked in studies to having the effect of shredding body fat and wouldn’t you know it, when you fast, your HGH levels are higher than normal. Translation, your body has no choice but to burn fat and get thinner. All good news for you.

The Bottom Line

So what does all this mean? Simply that by using intermittent fasting, you can mimic the effects of intense exercise and reap the benefits without having to hit the gym everyday and still lose weight. This method is extremely effective at burning fat. Be sure to check out the my fat loss program on this site for information on the best intermittent fasting program I’ve found.

Thanks for the great information! I tried IF accidently (before learning about IF) back in 2007. I lost 40lbs in 5 weeks & have the photos to prove it.
